The new Citybridge builds on the sense of Drammen, representing and amplifying the local identity.
The new City Bridge builds on the spirit of Drammen — representing and amplifying the city's evolving identity. It is rooted in the municipality’s long-standing ambition to reshape its public spaces and deepen its relationship with the river. We envisioned it as a seamless extension of the city's main artery, enlarging and breathing new life into Strømsø and Bragernes squares. It’s not just a crossing, but a destination and a vital link — even connecting directly to the train platforms — truly weaving the city together.
At its core, the bridge prioritizes the human experience. Every curve and dimension of Bybrua was considered from the perspective of the person using it. Whether walking, cycling, or commuting by train, the structure offers comfort, clarity, and calm. Generous sightlines stretch toward the skyline, revealing new perspectives of the city and the river. Tactile materials and finely crafted details invite interaction — supporting a sense of care, intuition, and invitation. At the same time, the bridge assumes its role as a recognizable element in the skyline. Sculptural in its presence, yet quiet in its expression, it draws a minimal line across the water — light in structure and tone, yet grounded in the character of the place. Its silhouette adapts to the complexity of the site — from the expansive horizon of the river to the precise infrastructural geometry of the train station. Its lightness, openness, and quiet confidence give the City bridge its presence. It reflects the city it serves -as a landmark, it respects Drammen’s scale while gently asserting itself as a core element of the city’s identity and axis. This is infrastructure shaped not only by need, but by vision — designed with care, and built to belong.
